This Ladakh Apricot Blossom Package is designed for travellers who want to experience Ladakh beyond the summer rush. The 8N/9D itinerary follows the official Apricot Blossom Festival dates, when valleys around Leh, Kargil, Alchi, Turtuk, and nearby villages turn white and pink between early April and early May. Expect a blend of monastery walks, heritage stories, curated local meals, village interactions, and easy paced drives that respect altitude and allow for proper acclimatization. Whether you are a solo traveller, part of a small group, or a photographer seeking spring’s soft light, this trip offers a slower, more local centric angle to one of India’s most dramatic landscapes.

The Journey

Day 1 - Arrival in Leh, Soft Landing & Sunset Rituals

Arrive at Leh Airport where the local trip leader welcomes you with khata (traditional scarf). Post check in, hydrate and rest to support acclimatization at 3,500m. Gentle exploration begins only if you feel comfortable.

Places to Visit

Shanti Stupa at Golden Hour

  • Short drive up to Shanti Stupa for panoramic views of Leh, Stok Kangri range, and the Indus Valley. Spend 30 to 40 minutes walking slowly, clicking photos, and settling into the silence of the mountains.

Leh Palace Walk

  • Continue down to the old town and explore the 17th century Leh Palace and its rooftops, which give a beautiful frame of the town’s mud brick houses and surrounding peaks

  • Local market stroll through lanes lined with prayer flags, small cafés, and shops selling Tibetan handicrafts

A transition day blending iconic sightseeing with deep war history and surreal landscapes. Cross high passes like Namika La and Fotu La with scenic halts for photography.

Drass War Memorial

  • A powerful tribute to the soldiers of the 1999 Kargil conflict. Walk through the galleries and read stories of Operation Vijay while facing the peaks where the battle was fought.

A slow, immersive day focused on culture, villages, and soft spring landscapes as apricot trees bloom across Kargil. This day beautifully contrasts with the previous war history route, offering warmth, colour, and authentic local life.

Aryan Valley (Dha Hanu Region)

  • Visit villages of the Brokpa tribe, known for their unique Indo Aryan heritage, traditional attire, and apricot orchards in full bloom.

Kargil Museum

  • Explore regional history and culture beyond the battlefield, with exhibits showcasing local heritage, artifacts, and stories of Kargil.

Hunderman (Hundermaan) Village

  • Visit this historic border village near the LOC, known for apricot orchards, war relics, and powerful stories from past conflicts, especially striking during blossom season.

This day is timed around the Apricot Blossom Festival, curated annually to celebrate the blooming season around Alchi, Likir, and nearby villages. Expect folk performances, local stalls, apricot tastings, and a gentle tour of ancient art.

Alchi Monastery

  • One of the oldest and most artistically significant monasteries in Ladakh. Home to rare 1,000 year old frescoes and wooden carvings.

Likir Monastery

  • A peaceful gompa with a giant Maitreya Buddha overlooking the valley. Walk through courtyards and enjoy the quiet monastic life.

Day 5 - Leh to Nubra via Khardung La

Crossing into Nubra through one of the world’s highest motorable passes. A day of high passes, desert dunes, and starlit skies.

Khardung La

  • One of the highest motorable passes in the world, with panoramic views over the Indus and Nubra valleys. Gentle halt at the top for photos and tea.

Diskit Monastery

  • Perched above the valley, along with the towering Maitreya Buddha statue offering sweeping views of the Shyok river.

Hunder Sand Dunes

  • Walk on the cold desert and take an optional Bactrian camel ride on double humped camels native to this region.

Experience Highlights

  • Stargazing after dinner with minimal light pollution in Nubra
  • Bonfire session with storytelling and Ladakhi folk tales

Follow the Shyok River further north to Turtuk, one of India’s northernmost villages near the Indo Pak border. In bloom season, Turtuk is one of the most photogenic apricot belts.
